dpi value is saved or retained in TIF, JPEG, BMP, or TIF files. If you save a file with a certain dpu value, that value will be read back when you open the same file later. GIF file format, however, does not do this. If you save a file with 300 or 3000 dpi, when you read this file back it will appear to have dpi value of 72.
